The Midweek Turkey Trot featured primarily a field of the regular senior players but there were three of the weekend single figure players making a bid for Christmas success. Phil Moody though held off the invaders with a 37 point score, one clear of John Hennessy and Peter Smart, both taking advantage of a rare appearance from the yellow tees.
Icy conditions greeted the early starters in the Turkey Trot for the opening holes but it did not detract the very first player out on the course as Mike Sandiford came in with a score of 38 points, enough to take the annual pre-Christmas prize. Birdies at the 6th and 13th sent him on his way although blobbing the final hole did leave him worried he might have blown it. Scott Dorrall also came in with 38 points but lost out to Mike on countback. Marvin Horobin’s 37 points earned him 3rd place with John “Buffer Zone” Collingwood in 4th with 36.
Only two players shot better than their handicap in the Weekend Stableford on November 23rd and it was Rob Pountney, fresh off being crowned the Order of Merit Champion for 2019, who took victory with 38 points, one clear of Peter Tristram. Peter will be regretting not scoring on the final hole. Division Two was won by Mark Jennings with a score of 36 points, no other player in the entire field even exceeding 33 on the day.
