Competition results

It is only when you see great scores in limited competitions that you realise that maybe we do not need all 14 clubs in our bags.   The Seniors’ Three Clubs and a Putter challenge proved this as Ray Jupp came in with a magnificent 38 points score, one clear of Malcolm Macdonald.   This was in spite of the heavy conditions underfoot and a late rain shower that hit the final groups coming down the 18th.  Mike Tysome announced his return from injury with a 35 point score to take third place.

A healthy field took part in the Qualifying Stableford on November 20th but scoring was tough all round.   Alan Henshaw, definitely back off the yellow tees after the Captain’s Drive-In, took the honours with 34 points with Mick Streeter and Paul Miles coming in behind on 32.

A traditional event this time of the year in the Seniors calendar is a foresomes event for the Wells Putter.    And the 2019 winners were Derek Goode and Malcolm McDonald who took a one shot victory over Mick Streeter and Derek Evans.

Seniors AGM and Xmas Event

Dear members,

The men’s seniors committee is considering changing the basis for seniors’ activities in the club, moving towards the less-formal basis that prevails in most golf clubs. Any member over 55 would be able to play in roll-ups, competitions and matches. There would be no annual subscription but there would be a small charge to participate in roll-ups and competitions.

This will be discussed at the AGM on 11 December. Whether or not you wish to participate in the discussion, you are welcome to participate in our traditional fun event beforehand – playing for the Peg – and having complementary sandwiches, chips, mince pies and a drink afterwards at about 12 noon.

The winner of the Peg is the person who gets furthest round the course in a fixed number of shots based on age and handicap. We start at 8 am. After lunch there will be presentations of trophies for the past year, followed by the discussion about the future arrangements. All done by about 14:00.

Please see the seniors’ notice board for sign up sheet and more details.
